I’ve always dreamt of a live edge coffee table but the slabs are $1,000+ for the size I needed. Then while browsing my hubby’s least favorite place of mine… Facebook marketplace I found this diamond in the rough!
My bargain-skilled hubs went to pick it up for me and got it for $300. It was very rawly cut, not level, and actually wet from the rain. Gorgeous, even still!
We put the live edge slab right on top of our old coffee table for the time being until I found a better “base” for it which ended up being another coffee table with nicer legs on Facebook marketplace ($20)!
The new base got a coat of Charcoal Fusion Mineral Paint I had and then I wiped their Matte Tough Coat over it.
The slab got a very long thorough sanding. You can see in the pic the far side is sanded and is super smooth and the close side was un-sanded and rough to the touch.
It still isn’t completely flat & level, but thats one of the things I love most about it- looks more authentic & has more character!
I wiped the slab with 2 good coats of Fusion Matte Tough Coat… which you’d think I was getting paid to mention because I have been finishing every single project with it since I discovered it a few months ago! Including the top of our Home Coffee Bar and the Vintage Coffee Hutch I redid.
I never knew much about different types of wood, but this slab of Pecan has such gorgeous color and grain and has me in swooning over Pecan every time I look at our live edge coffee table.
I also have a live wood edge slab in my vanity area where I do my makeup- I’ll have to share that with you too! Let me know if any of you have some gorgeous live wood edges in your home!
