Okay, you are ready to tackle the Linen Closet Organization in your Home Organization journey– but you don’t know where to start. I’ll get you from overwhelmed- to confident and ready to dive in! Read on..
Small Linen Closet Organization Step #1
First think about everything that HAS to be in there. If your linen closet is small, brainstorm if any of the contents can be more appropriately stored somewhere else. For example, our linen closet is tiny and was bursting at the seams. We store the towels we use everyday in our bathrooms so they are there for us when we get out of the shower.
The kids pull out all the extra blankets on the reg for fort building and other shenanigans. The blankets always get shoved back in there- definitely not folded pretty, ha! I switched the storage location for their extra blankets to their bedrooms rather than the linen closet. I did have all the cleaners in there- but decided to store the bathroom cleaners & supplies in the bathrooms.
Here is how we store the kids’ shower towels in their bathroom:
Small Linen Closet Organization Step #2
After finding more appropriate homes for those that you’d like to remove from the linen closet, assess:
- What you have left
- How to group it up
- How much space each category will take up
Organizing Bins for Linen Closet Organization
Bins are really useful if you don’t fold your towels picture perfectly. Labeled bins also assure everything gets put back into its ‘designated spot.’ That way every time you open the door to the linen closet its always easy to find just what you need! But are you wanting cute bins for free?- Check out how to make custom bins from cardboard. If you’d prefer to buy your bins, Target’s Dollar Spot has had some cute ones like these that I got from there!!
Put the stuff you don’t need to get into and out of very often up high so you don’t drive yourself nuts with it! Our extra sheets go up there- we only get out those if someone is sick or something.. otherwise we just wash the ones on the bed and put them right back on.
The other bins are from Target, At Home, and Ikea.
Labels for Linen Closet Organization
After you get everything situated into bins take the time to make some cute labels & don’t feel bad micro-labeling every little thing that is in each bin, because then everything will always be easy to find!
