We’ve had these curtains in our Master Bedroom for years and I still love them. White curtains are timeless. A tree branch curtain rod adds the interesting element that combines perfectly with this classic curtain. We can all agree that the best home decor projects are the ones that last the long haul.
We were working on a VERY tight budget when I added these white curtains to our Bedroom. Because of the budget constraints, I couldn’t waltz into Anthropologie and drop $100 a panel for pre-packaged bohemian curtains. So I got resourceful and created these dreamy light & airy curtains and hung them from a tree branch curtain rod.

The first place to go to get home decor ideas flowing is always Pinterest! I was inspired by this pin from Less Than Perfect Life of Bliss‘ Blog to hang my curtains from a tree branch curtain rod. Although to give my tree branch curtain rod a more natural, bohemian look I would keep the natural wood tone, and add faux olive leaf garland to it.
Materials to Create a Tree Branch Curtain Rod:
Find a tree branch sturdy enough to hold curtains. If you are doing more than 1 window, like in our master bedroom, you should find 2 tree branches that extend about the same length. My 2 branches are shaped totally differently & the imperfect differences in the branches add to the boho vibe perfectly.
You can spend a little more on mounting brackets you love since your tree branch curtain rod is free. But after adding the faux garland, you actually don’t even see the mounting brackets on ours. I got my Antique Brass Mounting Brackets for $10/pair at Ace Hardware. But now you can get these same Antique Brass Mounting Brackets on Amazon for even less!
Mounting the Tree Branch Curtain Rods:
You will not mount your curtain rod brackets the same way you would for a traditional curtain rod. To mount the tree branch curtain rod- First hold the branch up where you’d like it, and then manually mark and place your mounting hardware. Make sure you hang your branch high enough so that the top of the curtain (below the tie tabs) clears the top of the window. The brackets likely won’t be perfectly level, or spaced exactly the same, because the various shapes of the branches.

DIY Tie Tab Curtains
The Less than Perfect Life of Bliss Blog also has this tutorial for light & airy curtains made out of $5 flat sheets & bias tape that I used for these.
You can get a Flat White Twin Sheet for that light & airy feel. Sheets will have extra length that will pillow at the bottom for a cozy, bohemian look. To add tie top tabs to the top of your curtains, white bias tape works perfectly. I am NOT a sewer, but was able to hand sew these bias tape tabs on. My DIY white sheet curtains have been washed & dried many times and the bias tape tabs are all still secure… woohoo! The bias tape is not as crisp as it once was but looks just as, if not more fabulous now.
*You do need tie tab curtains for this project. Because you will need to adjust the height for each tab so the top of the curtain hangs level from the uneven branch curtain rod.
BUY Tie Tab Curtains
If you don’t want to DIY the curtains out of sheets, you don’t have to! I found these airy white curtains with tie tabs that you could purchase on Amazon to hang from a tree branch curtain rod.
The white tie tab curtains hung from the tree branch curtain rod looks great as is. But as a true boho home decor enthusiast- I love succulents and greenery. These tree branch curtain rods are a great place to add some greenery. Many different faux garland would look amazing draped across a tree branch curtain rod. Here are some nice looking garlands on Amazon: Olive Leaf Garland, Eucalyptus Garland, or if the budget allows you could spring for preserved boxwood garland.
